U.S. Signal Centre set up American soldies fortify their hastily ereoted signal centre set up on a beach near Aitape, on the northern coast of New Guinea, where U.S. troops pushed Ashore on April 22,1944. Two Soldiers (right) operate a field radio reciever and transmitter while other U.S. Fighters dig frenches behind the signal searchlight which is used in contacting naval craft off shore. As American troops routed the Japanese from Aitape, two other U.S. forces pushed inland at two points flanking Hollandia, to the west. The triple Defensive brought an additonal 150-mile coastal streyon of the Southwest pacific island under allied control. NI 4797
