Verenigde Staten. U.S. Combat engineers build bridge over the Ill River. U.S. Combat engineers under enemy fire push a section of a Bailey bridge into place, to span the River Ill near Niederenheim, France. U.S. armor and infantry are waiting for the completion of the bridge in the last hours of the battle against the Colmar pocket, begun January 20, 1945, and finished February 9 at eight o'clock a.m. It was officially announced at Sixth Army Group headquarters February 10 that the 19th German Army had been eliminated as an offensive force with the destruction of six infantry divisions and one armored brigade during the three-week campaign against the Colmar pocket in Alsace.
