4 augustus 1945

The Dutch Princesses arrive at their palace. Saturday, August 4th, is an unforgettable day for the inhabitants of Baarn and Soest, the samll towns which count the family of the Prince among its inhabitants. On Saturday Princess Juliana and her children returned to the Palace after an exile of mor than five years. An enormous crowd had gathered round the palace to see the small princesses playing with the 1500 children who had been invited for this day. The surprises of the day was the pony with carriage which the children of the villages offered to the princesses and of course they wanted to try it immediately. "How do you like it, Beatrice?". "Very nice". "It is nicer than in Canada?" a chauvunistic Dutchman askes. "It certainly is", the princess says but adds the reason immediately. "Now we ha a nice big house with larte corridors. You can run as fast as you like and shout as hard as you want". Cameramen rush in to film the princesses and Beatrice receives them with an air as though this is her daily work. Then there is the magician. 1500 children look sitting on the grass and among them the Princesses, with their father. Says a journalist: "Of course they have seen much bigger things than this. This magician is still producing rabbits from a hat and in America skyscrapers pop out of the same old hat". "A beautiful succesful afternoon", the prince says. "The children like it. They are very glad to be in Holland. Beatrice does not remember anything; she was too smell when we left". Juliana also enjoys hersel
