Opruimen van een wegblokkade tijdens de bevrijdingsacties van de Britse troepen. "ARMY FILM AND PHOTO SECTION, SEAC. DOPE SHEET SE 5893-5905. Dec.45. British troops open the Semarang-Ambarawa road to liberate Dutch women and children.... On the last day of November British troops of the 49the Brigade succeeded in opening the Semarang-Ambarawa road and escorted Dutch R.A.P.W.I. personnel to Banjoebiroe camp where many Dutch civilians had been held by the Indonesians. Among the troops of 49th Brigade (commander Brig. R.B.W. Bethell, DSO) were Indian personnel of the Mahrattas and the 3/10 Gurkha Rifles. During the advance a party of Indonesians, who were using a captured 2 lb British anti-tank gun, were wiped out. The operation necessitated burning to the ground of a village which harboured Indonesian forces. With the opening of the road, Dutch R.A.P.W.I. were able to liberate Dutch civilians, including many women and children, and brought them out by plane and truck with their belongings. SE 5894..Clearing the road. Indian troops (Mahrattas) advance with a tank."
