' Nazi Prison Opened By U.S. Troops. Freed prisoners line the railings of their prison at Luttringhausen, Germany, after they were liberated April 15, 1945, by U.S. troops. J.F. Osten, Vice-Admiral of the Dutch Navy, stands near his country's flag as the freed inmates, most of whom are apparently Dutch, celebrate the birthday of Princess Juliana. A handmade American Flag also hangs on the railing. The prison contained 900 inmates, of whom 325 were political prisoners and the balance `criminals`. Three days before the arrival of American soldiers, 72 men disappeared from the prison and are believed to have been shot. '
