German civilians on trial for murder of American flier. This is the military court which will decide the fate of the first three German civilians tries in Germany on charges of having committed war crimes. Pictured at the haering, which opened June 1, 1945, in Ahrweiler, Germany, are, left to right: Mojor Arnold M. Davis of Forth Woprth, Texas; ColonelHorace M. Woodward of Washington, D,C,; Colonel L. Holmes Ginn of Richmond, Virginia; Colonel Louis J. Compton of Washington, D.C.; Colonel Russell S. Pattersan of Statesville, North Carolina; Colonel Robert A. Schow of Washington, D.C.; Colonel Charles H. Bryan of Parkersburg, West-Virginia, Lieutenant Colonel George L. Hecker of Chicago, Illinois. The three Germans, Perter Kohn, Matthias Gierens and Matthias Krein, are accused of the murder of an American flyer who was forced to bail out of his crippled plane and landed in Ahrweiler, a town in the Rhineland. The court was appointed by Major General Leonard T. Gerow, Commander of the 15 th U.S. Army. The vote of at least two-thirds of the court is necessary for a conviction or a sentance.
