German youths die for espionage.
German youths die for espionage. Two German Red Cross aides place the lifeless body of 16-year-old Heinz Petry, of Alsdorf, Germany, into a coffin after his execution by a Ninth U.S. Army firing squad June 1, 1945, for espionage against American forces. He claimed he was offered the chance to spy on U.S. forces in order to clear his own record at a Hitler Youth detention camp where he had been held. The execution took place near Braunschweig, Germany.
