German prisoners forced to exhume bodies of slave workers.

15 mei 1945

German prisoners forced to exhume bodies of slave workers. Slave laborers, murdered by German SS troopers, lie on a hillside five miles west of Tittling near Passau, Germany, waiting for decent reburial. In the background are German prisoners-of-war depositing bodies whichh they were ordered to dig out of the mass murder grave by American military authorities occupying the area. Einght hundred of the slave laborers - Poles, Slavs, Russians, Frenchmen and Italians - were slain by their German guards when they were unable to complete a forced march from Buchenwald concentration camp to another prison. The German prisoners were forbidden to use picks or shovels which might further mutilate the bodies in digging them out.
