Ex-Nazi leaders in Berlin, not classified as war criminals but who were active in local party activities, are now digging up the bodies of hundreds of former party enemies victims of Nazi mass killings. Under the direction of military government officials these Nazi leaders do rubber suits and remove the hastly buried victims and then hold proper burial ceremonies in constituted cemeteries. Three hundred and forty eight such persons were recently exhumed by the wortkers at the former Gestapo headquarters in Berlin. The victims were emprisioned as a result of the time-bomb explosion at Nazi headquarters of July 20th, 1944. When the Russians were swarming towards Berlin the victims were taken into the courtyard and shot as the Russians approached the city. The bodies were then hastily buried in the courtyard in mass graves. This was one of the several such incidents that took place within Berlin. The work is under the direction of AMG borough oficials, because most of the civil buildings were located in the Kreuzberg borough of Berlin, Major Merle H. Smith of Long Island, New York, Military Government officer in that area, and Captain Charles Leonetti of Tampa, Florida, local public safety officer have thus far directed the work.
