Unconditional surrender of Germany ratified in Berlin. Admiral Hans Georg von Friedeburg, Commander in Chief of the German Fleet, signs May 9, 1945, in Berlin a copy of the ratification of the unconditional surrender of Germany to the Allies originally signed at Reims, France, May 7, 1945. The signing of the ratified copies of the instrument of surrender took place at the Soviet Army Headquarters in the great hall of the German Military Academy. Field Marshal Wilhelm Keitel, Chief of the German General Staff, was the first to sign at 00:15 a.m.
