Europe - ammunition trains have been special targets of strafing fighter pilots hitting the German rail lines behind the Western front. The three photos shown here, taken from 8th AF gun-camera films give a glimpse of these train attacks as seen by the pilot. (Top) start of explosion as a car loaded with ammunition is hit, (center) the explosion bursting wide open as the plane comes in, and (bottom) the roaring flare-up of flame, which in this case burned the camouflage from the bottom of the plane.
