Two-way traffic on the Rhine. As Third U.S. Army armor speeds across the Rhine on a newly erected pontoon bridge (bacground) bargeloads of German prisoners are brought to the western bank. Infantrymen of the Third U.S. Army plunged across the Rhine March 22, 1945, to be followed the next day by heavy guns and armored machines. March 23, the Third Army set a new record for its total of German troops captured in a single day by rounding up 11,599 prisoners.
