Bombs blast German aircraft works. The Messerschmitt aircraft works and experimental center at Augsburg, Germany, near Munich, after an attack by heavy bombers of the Eighth U.S. Air Force July 19, 1944. During the six days ending July 22, 1944, more than 12,000 American planes hit the Reich. More than 100 targets in Germany, including aircraft plants, experimental stations and oil production works, were smashed by planes of the Eighth and 15th U.S. Air Forces ranging over Germany from the Baltic to the Alps.
