Damage at Krefeld.
3 februari 1945
Damage at Krefeld. The centre of the town of Krefeld, on the Western outskirts of the Ruhr, as the RAF left it after a heavy attack on the night of 21/22.6.43. Krefeld was of considerable industrial importance, being the home of the Deutsche Edelstahlwerke combine, producing nearly 200,000 tons of special high-grade steel a year for use in Krupps and other great arms works. It was also a centre of the textile and silk manufacturing industry, with many firms making fabric for parachutes. The town was captured in the American advance to the Rhine on March 2nd, 1945.
