This is the battered shell of the Haupt Bahnof (main railroad station) at the end of the Hohenzollern road and rail bridge in Cologne, Germany, after attacks by Allied planes prior to the capture of the city by First U.S. Army troops March 6, 1945. The Eighth U.S. Air Force carried out 16 daylight assaults on this area in cooperation with night poundings by the British Royal Air Force.
