Russian victory flag flies over German Reichstag. The Russian victory flag flies over the Reichtstag in Berlin on May 2, 1945, the day the German capital was captured by Red Army troops. Berlin fell two days after the Russians fought their way through the streets to the administrative heart of the city and hoisted their banner over the Nazi government building. On the day the capital city fell, more than 70.000 German troops surrended to the Russians. This is a radiophoto sent from Moscow to the U.S.
