Russians capture German underground power station.
Russians capture German underground power station. A Soviet seoldier checks a dynamo in an underground power station taken by the Russians in their tremendous drive toward the heart of the Reich. This power station was used to turn the machinery of German permanent fortifications which were abandoned before the mighty Russian advance. The Russians, by March 7, 1945, had reached Cammin, the Baltic entrance to Stettin Bay and were massed along a 200 mile (320 km.) front on the Oder River. On the Western Front, Allied forces had smashed through German defenses to capture Cologne, the fourth largest city of the Reich, in a drive to the Rhine River. This is a radiophoto sent from Moscow to the U.S.
