German school reopend under Allied supervision. German mothers walk throughthe streets of Aachen, Germany, in June, 1945, to the first publc school opened by the U.S. Military Government. More than 600 registered for admission to classes in the first four grades. On the right in the picture can be seen piles of debris, reminders of battles fought in this area before Germany surrendered to the Allis. The school is under strict supervision of the U.S. Military Government. Twnty-two teachers, none owhom are former members of the Nazi Party, were appointed as instructors, using textbooks approved and printed by the Military Government.
