American Military Government in Germany. Captain Beverly R. Holstun, Food and Agricultar Officer of the Bayreuth Military Government detachment, examines marcaroni produced at a German factory for displaced persons. Hans Lauterbach, manager of the Knorr Mittelfabric, which is producing several types of food, primarily for displaced persons and other military requirement, is at left. The objectives of Military Government in respect to agriculture and food processing are to obtain the full use of existing supplies and to ensure the fullest possible exploitation of these industries to provide for the needs of the occupying forces and United Nations displaced persond, for such exportable surpluses as may be required by Allied authorities and for the minimum requirements of the German population. No relief food will be imported into Germany exept in extreme emergencies and then only to the extent necessary to prevent discase and such disorder as might endanger or impede military operations or occupation.
