Czechoslovakians cheer American liberators.
Czechoslovakians cheer American liberators. Civilians of Schuttenhoffen, Czechoslovakia, line up to cheer the entrance of Fourth Armored Division forces of the Third U.S. Army, who liberated their town from the Germans. This photograph was taken May 5, 1945, while fighting was still raging in the country. This continued even after the German High Command signed unconditional surrender terms May 7, 1945, although the Germans in Czechoslovakia were ordered the rease firing and were threatened with heavy penalties. Czechoslovakia was invaded by the Germans in 1939 and was reentered by Allied forces May 1, 1945.
