They saved a bridge for the Allies.
They saved a bridge for the Allies. Four French boys, the two in the center only fourteen years old, who stopped the retreating Nazis from blowing up a bridge in Le Mans, France. While German machine gunners and an American tank were exchanging fire across a river, one of the boys, who had seen the Germans preparing to destroy the bridge swarmed onto the bridge under fire, followed by the three others. While one cut the wires leading to the charges, another pulled out the fuses from a pile of shells placed on the bridge. The eldest youth aged 22, shot four Germans in the vicinity who tried to scare them off.
