Contingency stockpile. French patrols return from front. French troops, members of a French expeditionary corps with the Allied Fifth Army, file through the streets of an Italian town on their return from a patrol of front line positions (January 1944). Fighting units of this corps won praise from U.S. Lieutenant General Mark W. Clark, commander of the Fifth Army, for succesful operations which drove the Germans from Acquafondata, an important mountain position seven miles north of Cassino.
