Armistice Day in Luxueil le Bains, France. This picture, taken over the bayonets of French soldiers shows General Jean Devinck of the French Army, Lieutenant General Alexander M. Patch, Commanding General of the Seventh U.S. Army and General de Vermejoul of the French Army saluting during the special Armistice Day celebration at Luxueil les Bains, the French town where the Lafayette Escadrille of American volunteer flyers was accepted into the French Army in the last war. On November 11, 1944, in honor of this event and in celebration of the liberation of Luxueil les Bains by troops of the 36th U.S. Division, a special Armistice Day program was held. Major General John E. Dahleuist, Commander of the 36th Division, was presented with a flag for the division's battle standard and a new plaque was mounted under the memorial to the Lafayette Escadrille in the City Hall Square. General Patch spoke at the celebration.
