D-Day anniversary in Normandy. One year after the "D-Day" landings of the Allied Expeditionary Force on the beaches of Normandy, France, June 6, 1944, a sign is seen marking the trail over which U.S. troops advanced to assault German positions. Grass and wild flowers now grow over the former muddy path which later led American troops into Germany. The trail was built by the 149th U.S. Egineer Combat Batallion. A sign in the foreground warns against mines still uncleared from the area.
