U.S. Army Air Forces exhibit opens in Paris. Beneath the wing of a B-17 Flying Fortress, Parisians jam the entrance to the U.S. Army Air Forces Exposition beneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris on opening day August 1, 1945. At right, 500-pound bombs form a fence around the exhibit. Approximately 75,000 people daily attend the show, which will run for two months, to see the Flying Fortresses, Liberators, Black Widows, Thunderbolts, gliders and transport planes, all veterans of the war. Free movies are shown daily in a Butler portable hangar, the type which Air Force men constructed in from 36 hours to three days on the air strips of France and Germany.
