Columbia students take pacifist oath.
4 december 1935
Columbia students take pacifist oath. Columbia University students, in a mass meeting in their gymnasium, April 12, shouted the "Oxford" pledge not to bear arms. They were led in taking the pledge by Roger N. Baldwin, director of the American Civil Liberties Union, shown in photo pointing to it. The Columbia University demonstration was one of many such mass meetings held on College Campuses throughout the country in which students marched out of their classrooms for an hour as a protest against war.
