German war prisoners prepare meal at U.S. internment camp.
German war prisoners prepare meal at U.S. internment camp. In a well-lighted kitchen, German prisoners of war prepare an evening meal for their comrades at an internment camp in the Eastern U.S. More than 140,000 prisoners of war, who where captured by U.S. forces, are quartered in 56 prison camps throughout the U.S. Their food, which is prepared under the supervision of mess sergeants chosen from among their own group, is similar to the food provided at U.S. Army training camps. They receive the same medical attention available to any American soldier, and they are governed by men of their own group. Group singing, theatricals and various sports are among the recreational activities in which they may participate. When engaged on work projects, they are paid a daily wage in canteen credits. In this well equipped kitchen German prisoners prepare dinner for their comrades. Food is similar to that served at U.S. Army camps.
