U.S. Army vehicle negotiates steep descent. A U.S. Army M-29, new lightweight personnel and supply carrier, safely negotiates a steep slope. Known as the 'Weasel', its existence has just been made public, though it has been in production for two years. Low-slung and powerful, it operates through snow, deep mud, or sand. The light weight of the 'Weasel'and its rubberpadded tracks enable it to attain high speed on almost any terrain. Major General G.M. Barnes, technical chief of U.S. Army Ordnance, which has charge of all material that rolls or shoots, said: 'The best ordnance is rarely invented overnight. It is developed through a series of models. The U.S. now has the most comprehensive and modern line of ordnance in the world.'
