U.S. TRANSPORT PLANE SETS NEW RECORD FOR CROSS-CONTINENT FLIGHT.
U.S. TRANSPORT PLANE SETS NEW RECORD FOR CROSS-CONTINENT FLIGHT. The Constellation, a large American transport plane, cuts through the skies on its way from California, a U.S. Pacific Coast state, to an airport in Washington, the U.S. capital, establishing a new record of six hours and 58 minutes for the cross-continent, non-stop flight. Carrying 17 persons, the tripe-ruddered ship flew at an average speed of 355 miles an hour and lowered the previous record time for the cross-continent flight by 30 minutes. The plane, capable of ferrying 100 soldiers with full equipment, is to be turned over to the U.S. Army for use as a war transport.
