BATTLESHIPS OF THE U.S. NAVY PLOW THROUGH THE PACIFIC. Four U.S. Navy battleships smash across the Pacific on a mission against the enemy. Massive in their armor and terrible in their concentrated firepower, these ships are among those which have dealt punishing blows to the Japanese stolen empire and to the elusive Japanese Navy. In the foreground fighter planes and dive bombers are spotted on the deck of the first line aircraft carrier, from which the photograph was taken. This combination of air and fleet strength made possible the navy aerial strikes against Tokyo, industrial targets on Feb. 16 and 17, 1945, and Feb. 25 and 26.
