AMERICAN AIR ACE ON LEAVE HAS DINNER WITH HIS FAMILY. Captain Richard I. Bong (in uniform), a U.S. Army fighter pilot who downed 27 Japanese planes in combat in the Southwest Pacific, and his family gather around the dinner table in their home in the Midwestern U.S. State of Wisconsin. This picture was taken while the 23-year-old ace was on leave before he set the new American record for planes destroyed in the air. Clockwise from Capt.
