U.S. TROOPS EN ROUTE TO FRANCE RECEIVE THEIR RATIONS.
U.S. TROOPS EN ROUTE TO FRANCE RECEIVE THEIR RATIONS. American soldiers receive candy, cigarets and food rations as they file along a deck in an English port to embark on landing vessels waiting to carry them across the English Channel to landing points along the north coast of France. In the background (right) trucks, tanks and other vehicles await their turn to roll aboard the landing craft. Attacking in force on June 6, 1944, American, British and Canadian sea and air-borne assault troops of the Allied Expeditionairy Force, with the support of Allied naval and air power, established beachheads on the French coast, and, in less than two days of fighting, cleared them of the enemy.
