Airborne troops on the march. Troops of the Allied airborne army, all of whom have been service in France, march past during a review by General Dwighth D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Allied Expeditionary Force, August 10, 1944. General Eisenhower, in a speech to the troops, announced the new Allied airborne army which Lieutenant General Lewis H. Brereton, former head of the Ninth U.S. Air Force, will command with Lieutenant General Frederick A.M. Browning of the British Army as his deputy. General Eisenhower said: "Through your effective employment, we will end this war far more quickly than we could without you". Formation of this new army will integrate and make more effective the large airborne forces now at the disposal of the Supreme Allied Command.
