America's new broadcasting station in Europe. The American Broadcasting Station in Europe (ABSIE) went on the air for the first time April 30, 1944, broadcasting from Great Britain to the countries on the Continent that lie across the Channel and the North Sea. The initial schedule included transmissions in the languages of France, Belgium, Holland, Norway, Denmark and Germany, in addition to Engllish, the secondary language of many Continantal peoples. The American Broadcasting Station in Europe is programmed and operated from its own studios by the United States Office of War Information. "This is the American Broadcasting System in Europe."
