U.S. Forces take over German ports. From the bridge of the huge luxury liner "Europa", U.S. Navy officers and the former German captain of the vessel direct the work of placing her in drydock at Bremerhaven. Left to right: Lieutenant Emmett Smith, USNR, executive officer; Captain Harold Holcomb, USN, senior captain in the European Theater of Operations, and Captain Oscar Scharf of the "Europa". When 13 tugboats towed the liner from its berth in Bremerhaven to the drydock, it was the first time the ship had moved in five years. It will become a U.S. Army troopship.
