The enemy raider was one of two definetely sunk during a period of six weeks in the Atlantic Ocean by Lieutenant Robert P. Williams, pilot of an escort carrier-based U.S. Navy Avenger bomber. In the same period, Lieutenant Williams possibly sank a third U-boat and dammaged a fourth so badly that it could be destroyed by another pilot from the same carrier.
