Following an attack by Eight U.S. Air Force bombers December 31, 1944, a liner was reported damaged anf two U-boats sunk in the Blohm and Voss shipyards. The 'Robert Ley"was named for the Nazi Labor Front leader, now a prisoner of the Allies. The 28,000-ton ship was built in 1938 for the "Strenght Through Joy" cruises.
