Admiral opens first French naval headquarters in Normandy. Underneath a photograph of General Charles de Gaulle, Rear Admiral Georges Thierry dÁrgenlieu (center) Commander-in-Chief of French Naval Forces in the United Kingdom, talks to two of his aides at the first French naval headquarters opened in liberated France. Admiral dÁrgenlieu was one of the first to enlist under de Gaulle after escaping from a German prison convoy in June, 1940. Graduated from a French naval school, he served in the last war and in 1920 he joined the Carmelite Order. He was Provincial of Paris when he rejoined the French forces in August 1939.
