Norways'little ships are in the front line. This picture, taken aboard the Norwegian coaster "Vestmanrod"during her first trip across the English Channel with supplies for the beachhead after the first Allied troops had been ashore 24 hours, gives some idea of the tremendous traffic across the Channel. A number of these little ships of the Norwegian Merchant Navy have been engaged since "D-Day"with the Allied fleets, in the front line task of convoying supplies to the Normandy beaches. They are part of the 4,000,000 tons comprising the Norwegian fleet, which has seen action with the Allied since 1940, and are ideal for this type of work as few large ships can be used while the beaches are the unloading points.
