Soviet sappers build log bridge for Baltic advance.
Soviet sappers build log bridge for Baltic advance. Sappers of General Andrei Yeremenko's Second Baltic Army throw a log bridge across a river during the Soviet offensive against the Germans on the northeastern front. A Russian tank is fording the shallow stream, and more tanks and troops on the back are ready to follow. Six weeks after the start on June 23, 1944 of their great Summer offensive, Soviet troops had driven into German-held Baltic areas, reached the Polish capital of Warsaw and were striking at the East Prussian border of Germany.
