This U.S. B-25 Mitchell bomber is part of a formation which further disrupted German communications by scoring direct hits on a railroad and highway bridge at Pietrasante, 20 miles (32 kilometes) north of Pisa, on the Italian west coast. Allied forces, having liberated Leghorn, are continuing their persuit of retreating German Forces and on July 21, 1944, were only four miles from the seaport of Pisa.
