Protecting Allied landings in Italy.
Protecting Allied landings in Italy. As landing forces were establishing beachheads at Nettunok Italy, January 22, 1944, B-26 Marauder medium bombers of the 12th U.S. Air Force give support to the operations just 30 miles below Rome by bombing vital communications targets immediately to the rear of the Fifth Army front. Here the planes are bombing the highway bridge at Caprano, Italy. The black puffs at upper left are bursts of Nazi flak. Note the snow-capped mountain in the distance.
