Allies rescue Italian civilians from battle zone. British soldiers in a scout car take Italian women and children from their homes in the neighborhood of Santa Lucia, near Salerno, September 1943, to a safe area during the fighting in which the Allied Fifth Army established the beachhead for its campaign to help liberate Italy from the Germans. The Italian civilians had been exposed to German mortar fire before being removed to safety by the British.
