Roman civilians cheer Allied Fifth Army entering Italian capital. Italian civilians, in the squar before the Victor Emmanuel Monument, cheer Allied Fifth Army forces entering Rome, the Italian capital, from which the Germans were driven on June 4, 1944. Food and supplies were being delivered trhough Allied agencies for the relief of the civilian population only a few hours after the Eternal City was liberated. Courst, libraries and elementary schools were opened and in use several days later.
