Amerikaanse militairen in Nieuw-Guinea. Het originele bijschrift luidt: "U.S. troops land near Hollandia. American soldiers stream down the ramp of an LST (landing ship-tank) vessel near Hollandia, former Japanese base on the northern coast of New Guinea, now under U.S. control. American Negro soldiers were among the assault forces which landed, on April 22, 1944, on three strategic points dominating a 150-mile stretch of the coastline of Northern New Guinea, capturing four enemy airfields and the towns of Hollandia and Aitape. The simultaneous American assaults completed the entrapment of an estimated 60,000 Japanese soldiers dispersed along the northern coastal area of New Guinea in the Southwest Pacific."
