U.S. war supplies piled high for assault on Northern New Guinea. U.S. war supplies are heaped on an Allied held beach on New Guinea ready to be loaded abord landing craft (background) which took part in the succesful American amphibious assault against the Japanese held Hollandia area on the northern coast of the southwest pacific island, three coordinated U.S. assaults, launched on April 22, 1944, at two points flanking Hollandia and at Aitape, to the east, completed the Allied encirclement of an estimated 60,000 Japanese dispersed along the northern coastal area of New Guinea.
