Brig. Gen. Frederick L. Anderson of the U.S.
Brig. Gen. Frederick L. Anderson of the U.S. Army Air Forces is directing the operations of American bombers against Axis Europe, as chief of the Eighth U.S. Army Air Force Bomber Command in England. A former wing commander, Gen. Anderson was appointed recently to succeed Brig. Gen. Longfellow. Gen. Anderson has been engaged in developing American aerial bombardment tactics since 1931, and organized the U.S. Army's first instruction center for bombardiers. He won the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1934 for risking his life by plunging a disabled plane into the sea to avoid crashing in a crowded area. He is 37 years old.
