Members of U.S. 'Y-Force' Breakfast in Field near China's Salween River. U.S. Brigadier General Frank Dorn (seated on box, center), chief of staff for the American liaison force with the Chinese (known as the 'Y-Force') and other members of his staff, breakfast in the field at a camp near the Salween River in Yunnan Province, China. Their hammocks are slung from nearby trees. The 'Y-Force' is an organization of American soldier-teachers who continue as tactical advisers when their chinese pupils go into action. These fighting teachers accompained the Chinese force of more than 20,000 troops which opened an offensive against the Japanese in China's Yunnan Province on May 10, 1944, by crossing the Salween River on a 100-mile front.
