Nazi Bavarian Gauleiter exhumed for investigation. This is the body of Nazi Bavarian Gauleiter Paul Giesler, exhumed from his unmarked grave June 6, 1945, in Berchtesgaden, Germany for investigation of his mysterious death May 4, 1945. The investigation was ordered by military authorities of the Seventh U.S. Army. Giessler was brought to the Reserve Lazarett Military Hospital May 3, suffering from poison which was allegedly self-administered. He recovered, and was removed by his Nazxi adjutant but returned a day later with a head wound which caused his death.
