Puppet ruler of Japanese-Held Manchuria.
Puppet ruler of Japanese-Held Manchuria. Prince Pu Yi was proclaimed 'Emperor of Manchuria' in 1934 by the Japanese after they had seized China's northeastern provinces and turned them into a puppet kingdom. He was enthroned as Emperor of China in 1912 by the newly created Chinese Republic under Dr. Sun Yat-Sen. Later he sought refuge with the Japanse who held him in readiness for the time when they intended to partition China and set him up as a figurehead ruler. A traitor to his people, Pu Yi has lent his name to the Japanese actions and decrees that have systematically robbed Manchuria of her naturel resources and made the country a slave to the Japanese invaders.
